Inside the Internet at apodimos.com any of the Greeks of second, third generation and their friends that do not know the Greek language, will be welcomed in order to learn their first words in Greek. The apodimos.com Glossary can not replace the learning of the Greek language from the teachers or professors of this language that try with limited resources from the Greek government and church to teach it.

The apodimos.com through the glossary will help the emigrants in understanding of their father’ s language, through translations in Greek of the basic ideas that can be used in every day life in the Greek environment of an English speaking person. Our goal is to understand Greek that the no-Greeks friends listen and the use of Greek that will impress their Greek friends.

Basically we are trying to create a helping language tool that will evolve in multimedia format for the English spoken friends of Greece entering the site of apodimos.com.

The GLOSSARY is not a translation of English texts but the understanding of the Greek language from:

a. the tourists

b. the visitors for the Olympic Games of 2004,

c. the other Europeans in the European Community because the language
is not a major language spoken in Europe.

The learning of the Greek language will follow the axes of understanding of words and expressions with

  • The use of phonetics for the presentation of the Greek word in Latin characters.

  • The presentation of words and expressions for everyday use.

  • The basic grammar rules of the Greek language.

  • Exercises to learn and understand the Greek language.

  • The presentation of special difficulties from English to Greek

  • This Internet tool will be filled of phonetics, designs, photos and later on,
    with sound of talking persons.

The GLOSSARY is not a helping tool for someone to write in Greek but to a help to speak Greek.
